About the Artist

Artwork and paintings are two of the many words used to describe the creations of Caroline Schmied. In reality, her works are windows to magical unknown lands. The medium is sometimes watercolor on rice paper, and sometimes clay, and even the computer. But whatever the base, the subject is vast and bold, ranging from explosively dynamic to passively tranquil.

Caroline Schmied has bridged Ancient Chinese Fine-Line with modern realism to create an original painting style that tests the limitations of contemporary artists of the day and still embraces the traditional qualities of the ancient masters. In her creations, the influence of her Celtic heritage as well as her Asian Arts studies collide to deliver a unique and empowering visual effect that is ever-changing in the eye of the viewer.

Her ceramic sculptures are the results of years of college study and a great love for hand building.

In 2002 she self-published her first novel, Threshold, and published the second, Over the Threshold, in 2003. The idea for the series came to her at the tender age of sixteen; and only through serious prompting from her husband, was she finally able to set the tale to type and share it with the world.

Whatever the medium (painting, sculpture, or the written word), the common thread is creativity - pure, uninhibited, and fascinating.

Caroline was born in Long Beach, California in 1971. She has a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). She studied watercolor painting in the Chinese style with professional artists Ning Yeh, Master Ponong Liu, Master George Lin, and Joyce Tanaka-Shields for four years before going professional.

She is an award-winning full-time artist, and lives with her husband Misha, her daughter Octavia, and their cat Bram, in sunny CA.
